Nebraska History Highlight
On April 6, 1867, Nebraska officially became the 37th state in the United States, marking a major step forward in its growth and development. Not long after statehood, the capital was moved from Omaha to Lancaster—soon renamed Lincoln in honor of President Abraham Lincoln. The decision was both strategic and symbolic, helping draw influence away from the river cities and more toward the center of the state, ultimately shaping Lincoln into the political and cultural hub it is today.
